GPT Image 2.5 is on the board, both of them, priced the same
OpenAI put out ChatGPT Images 2.5 on September 8 and it came as two models rather than one. Flare draws a still in about half the time GPT Image 2 takes. Sunburst is slower and holds the same subject and the same framing through round after round of edits. Both are on the picker now, on every paid plan.
The picture at the top of this post was drawn by Flare. Nothing was retouched and nothing was drawn over it.
Five quality steps, and the top one is 34 times the bottom
GPT Image 2 had three quality steps. These two have five, and the two new ones sit above the old top. A new box starts at medium, which is the same place every picture box in the product starts.
Every number below was read off a real generation on each step, not off a rate card. Both models were run separately and both came back identical to the cent, so the choice between them is about what they are good at and never about money.

Flare is the everyday one. It comes back in about half the time GPT Image 2 takes and holds more detail at the same step, so it is the one to reach for when you are filling a board out.
Sunburst takes longer and pays for it in one specific way: you can keep editing the same picture and the subject stays the subject. Change the jacket, change the light, move the camera back, and the face does not drift into somebody else. That is the whole reason to spend the extra wait, and it is the thing a cast sheet needs most.
Both take reference pictures, both do up to four pictures on one press, and both can come back with a transparent background.
What it changes on a board
Flare at its lowest step is 0.15 credits a picture. That is not the cheapest thing on the board, because GPT Image 2 at ITS lowest is 0.12, but it is close enough that the faster model is the one to throw eight versions of a composition at.
At the other end, max is the first picture step in the catalogue above 5 credits, and it is worth saying plainly that it is 34 times the low step. Nothing forces you there. A box arrives at medium and stays there unless you move it.
